From humble beginnings
Brian David Scalabrine was born on March 18, 1978 in Long Beach, California. He graduated in Enumclaw High School at Enumclaw, Washington in 1996. He enrolled at Highline Community College in 1996 where in his first year, he played its basketball team the Thunderbirds. In 1998, he attended at the University of South California (USC) and was the top average scorer and a leader in field goals and rebounds. He was only the player to have all started in 28 games and was the only Pac-10 conference players among the top 10 players in those areas. He became the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year and earned an All-Pac-10 honorable mention in 1999. In 2001, the USC advanced in the NCAA tournament in 2001 and it's his senior year. They lost to the Duke in final score 79-69 in the Elite Eight Round. He graduated with the degree in history.
NBA Career in New Jersey Nets
He was selected as 34th overall pick in the 2nd round of the NBA Draft in 2001 although he didn't watch the the draft. He ended leaving his house in that day and never saw that his name was actually called. In late September, he had an injury in his fifth metatarsal bone and missed the first ten days of New Jersey Nets training camp. He was again injured in his right foot while in the preseason game 2001-2002 against the Detroit Pistons in October 26, 2001. He only made his NBA debut in January 31, 2002 when his team played against the Milwaukee Bucks. They were the 2002 NBA Eastern Conference champions and they will be facing the Western Conference champions Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals which they lost in four games. His greatest exposure came when they faced the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. In a triple overtime victory, he scored his career high 17 points. Including a key 3-pointer with 41 seconds left in triple-overtime, as the Nets outlasted the Detroit Pistons in the final score of 127-120. He again surpassed his career high with a new record, scoring 29 points against the Golden State Warriors in January 26, 2005 and win with a final score of 113-99. In addition to his career high points, he had 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and block. On April 15, 2005, he had a career high minutes played with 45.
NBA Career in Boston Celtics
By the time of August 2, 2005, him and the Celtics management agreed to be on the team with a 5-year contract and a worth of $15 million. But his playing time dropped by 19 to 9 minutes even though he made his career high games played by 71 in his first season. In the 2007-2008 regular season, he played 48 games as the 9th player of the team. He averaged 10.7 in minutes, 1.8 points and 1.6 in rebounds. He tied his season high six rebounds and played 29 minutes on April 16, 2008 where it is the final game of the season. Although he didn't make any appearance in the playoffs, they managed to be on the 2008 Finals and won against their long term rival the Los Angeles Lakers by six games. Final score in their last game was 131-92 and it is in their homecourt. He did appear in the 2009 NBA Playoffs by 12 games, making his career high in games played in the playoffs season. He did average 20.5 minutes, 2.2 rebounds, and 5.1 points per game and this is his all career high in playoffs season. Although the Celtics were defeated by the Orlando Magic in 7 games in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. Finals score was 102-89 and it is in their homecourt. He did appeared again in the 2010 playoffs and this time it's the Finals, but he only did appear once and only played by a minute. Celtics were defeated by their long term rival the Lakers in 7 games with a final score of 83-79 and it is in Lakers' homecourt.
NBA Career in Chicago Bulls
On September 1, 2010, Scalabrine signed to a non-guaranteed contract with the Bulls. Scalabrine and the Bulls played against the Boston Celtics in November 5, 2010 where they won in a double overtime with the final score of 110-105 while Scalabrine only played 3 minutes in that game. In his first season with the Bulls, he played 18 games with an average of 1.1 points and 0.4 rebounds per game. In his second season, he played 28 games (10 more games played than his last season) with an again an average of 1.1 PPG but with 0.8 RPG (0.4 more rebounds per game or RPG than his last season).
NBA 2011 Lockout
On September 22, 2011, Scalabrine signed with an Italian team Benetton Treviso but left in December 2011 to pursue opportunities of a comeback in the NBA since after the lockout have ended. Hence he signed another contract with the Bulls
Retirement in NBA Career and Later Career Works
On September 6, 2012, the former Chicago Bulls player has turned down the opportunity of Tom Thibodeau to be an assistant coach because of wanting to be a broadcaster in Comcast SportsNet New England. He served as a color commentator for the Boston Celtics games next season and had admitted that his decision to turn down the opportunity was tough.
In July 2013, Mark Jackson of the Golden State Warriors head coach announced via Twitter that Scalabrine would be joining his staff.

Personal Life
Scalabrine has an Italian ancestry and has two brothers and a sister. Scalabrine married Kristen Couch in 2003 and their wedding ceremony was held in Hawaii and have two children. He also practiced yoga for his recovery of hamstring injury. He is also a member of the sports philanthropy organization Athletes for Hope.
Supporting Fans and Popularity
Despite his limited time in playing, he has been named as "Veal" in New Jersey Nets and the popular named to him was "The White Mamba". Fans in Boston always chants his name when they are in a sure win or winning and sometimes has been referring as bench warmers due to limited time playing on the floor. The chants end when he became a free agent and was signed by the Chicago Bulls. Even though, whenever the Bulls are playing against the Celtics, both teams chant his name in the end of the game whether the each other team wins.
